Just looked up the NOAA predictions for this winter. I guess I’ll repaint the spare aluminum Audi wheels in the next two months in preparation for a tough winter. I like the look of Dec 2016 to March 2017 for my Midwest region. Definitely quattro weather.

I always get my snows on in early October.. Seems there’s always that huge dump outta nowhere the 3rd or 4th week of October and if you wait till then, you’re dealing with a line of cars stretching around the block at the tire shop......

From personal experience, I can tell you that if you put off putting them on into later November, and then it snows and you slide into a curb, you will feel stupid.

I usually swap them at home but memories of rolling tires from the shed in 6“ of snow are fresh in my mind. I mount/balance my own tires at work, its a benefit of being at a shop.

I did that once and only once. It wasn’t a curb but a shallow ditch , somehow got the car out with only a broken bumper bracket and scratches.

Early October sounds crazy to me haha. Definitely will be waiting until around Thanksgiving. And at that point, it wont be because of snow but instead just due to the cold. I am running summers so I wouldn’t want to be out in anything in the 40s. I am in NJ though so its probably a bit different if you are more North.

Ive got summers on instead of all seasons this year so I bet it will be earlier than last year to put on my snows for sure. Last year I switched in like December because winter took so long to actually show up. Even then, there were quite a few 50+ degree days where I felt bad for tearing up my snows while going on a nice “winter” drive. NJ doesn’t see much snow but I am hoping for some November snow up in Vermont. Then I will put on the snow tires early to go skiing!

Speaking of, I need to order a new set for Mrs. Something-Clever-Here. Hers have about 1/3 to 1/4 of the total tread remaining, plus they are like 6 years old, maybe 5 years.

Oh... yeah, NJ is a bit different snow-wise than colorado.... For some reason I was thinking you were in Colorado too—-

The moment someone breathes the word “snow” starting mid-october, I look to put the snows on.

Im not playing around with that.

I had a bent tie rod and scratched up wheel for my trouble. Was able to drive it afterwards, though the wheels were toed-in enough that it would have been bad to do so had the roads not been covered in snow.

I would like to be living in Colorado. Much better state than this place! I am a total ski nut so it would be much more ideal for me. Current plan is to move out to So Cal though so it will be a much shorter flight at least to get to some great skiing out West!
